Why Use KneeKG™ System for Knee Pain Assessment?

Do you want to continually improve patient care, client satisfaction, the efficiency of the continuum of care, and grow your practice? Find out about knee pain assessment with the KneeKG™ system.

A Knee Kinesiography with KneeKG™ is a brief in-clinic exam that accurately and objectively assesses complete movement of the knee while the patient is weight-bearing, walking on a conventional treadmill. KneeKG™ is to the knee what the electrocardiogram (EKG) is to the heart – demonstrating exactly how the knee joint is functioning.

The computerized KneeKG™ assessment provides data about dynamic alignment and other mechanical deficits impacting the proper function of the afflicted knee. The exam provides insight into the causes of knee pain and symptoms in patients presenting with many forms of knee instabilities and problems. The data (biomechanical markers) isderived from the raw KneeKG™ measurements, which are the 3D kinematics of the knee. It includes flexion/extension, varus/valgus, and internal/external tibial rotation.

The increased understanding of the underlying knee issues have been proven to increase patient adherence and compliance in their care management plans. Additionally, by enabling a more efficient, personalized approach, it has led to patients’ reporting outcomes of reduced pain and increased function1.

How can the KneeKG™ System benefit me?

  • Grow your practice by extending your current services
  • Introduce a new reliable way to assess knee misalignment
  • Become an expert in knee assessment with a new proven approach

Here is a short testimonial from a satisfied clinician, Andrew Vertson, PT, DPT, ATC and owner at Intecore PT

” I think as a clinician, I have a pretty good eye for deficits in the knee and with gait analysis. The KneeKG brings that to a whole other level. It allows me as a clinician to see things that the naked eye cannot see, which will allow me to better treat the patients, give them a good quality care program, and prevent knee injury in the futur.”

Address the causes of knee pain with the right information!

  • Knee pain is correlated to mechanical deficits
  • There is no or poor correlation between pain & X-ray

Knee Kinesiography with the KneeKG™ system, is a reliable way to:

  • Understand what is happening with the patient’s knee in order to better identify causes of symptoms
  • Help patients play an active role in management of their problem – providing visual aids to increase the understanding of their knee function and deficits.

Target population:

KneeKG™ is indicated for appropriate assessment of the 3D knee motion for patients who have impaired movement functions of an orthopaedic cause. It is intended to provide information used in physical evaluation and treatment planning purposes.

Knee Kinesiography with the KneeKG™ is to the knee what the electrocardiogram (EKG) is to the heart

  • The KneeKG™ assessment can be offered in any clinical setting (Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy or Rehab Clinics; Hospitals (Orthopaedic or Physical Therapy department)
  • Knee Kinesiography is done by a healthcare professional using the KneeKG™ system who has been trained by Emovi

How is knee pain assessment conducted with the KneeKG™ system

The knee attachment system “exoskeleton”, designed to eliminate movement artifact of the skin and muscles, is placed on the patient’s lower limb.

Using an optical system, 3D knee kinematics data are captured during walking on a conventional treadmill, at a self-determined comfortable speed, in a dynamic, weight-bearing context. Data is captured in all 3 planes of movement.

Key advantages of the system:

  • Immediate report capabilities
  • Visual aid for the patient
  • Access to an independant exercise module to design personalized programs addressing biomechanical deficits

X-rays and MRIs can inform clinicians about the structure of the joint; however, a patient’s pain is correlated with dynamic movement patterns, not static imaging1.

Obtaining a functional knee assessment is key to understand the root causes of a patient’s symptoms.

The KneeKG™ evaluates knee function by identifying biomechanical markers associated with pain, injury, and risk for future orthopaedic impairments.

These markers are specifically identified from the 3D kinematics of the knee and include flexion/extension, varus/valgus, internal/external tibial rotation.

The KneeKGTM is to the knee what the EKG (electrocardiogram) is to the heart.

It provides objective information about knee joint function, and does not rely on a subjective interpretation of movement patterns. It allows the clinician to develop a patient-specific treatment plan to address the deficits identified during the KneeKGTM examination.

stats | emovi | kneekg

Use of the KneeKG™ as part of clinical care produces statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements that are superior to standard of care3.

Clinical trials have shown:

  • Reduced pain
  • Improved function
  • Increased patient satisfaction (84%)4
  • Enhanced adherence to treatment (88% after 3 months)3
  • Reduced biomechanical markers that are risk factors for osteoarthritis progression (varus-thrust)2

The KneeKG™ can play an integral role in the management of pain due to orthopedic conditions, including osteoarthritis, anterior knee pain, ligament injuries and others.

Proven treatment results have been demonstrated when incorporating the KneeKG™ as part of the clinical care pathway:
