Geisinger Health to Adopt the KneeKG System of Emovi inc. Into its Clinics
The first clinically validated tool that meets the global needs of clinicians for objective and quantifiable data to understand causes of orthopedic knee pain
Montreal, CA (June 02, 2021) – Emovi inc. is pleased to announce that Geisinger Health, comprised of nine hospital campuses, two research centers, a college of medicine, and a 550,000-member health plan serving more than three million residents in central, south-central, and northeast Pennsylvania, broadens its care and support for patients experiencing knee pain with the addition of five KneeKG Systems into their clinics. Developed by Emovi, the KneeKG is used on the knee, like an EKG is for the heart. The KneeKG is appropriate for assessing the 3D motion of the knee for patients who have impaired movement functions of an orthopedic cause – precisely identifying and quantifying biomechanical dysfunction for clinicians. The technique is described as a Knee Kinesiography exam.
“Knee pain is one of the most common complaints that physicians hear from patients,” says Dr. Michael Suk, Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chair of the Musculoskeletal Institute at Geisinger Health System in Danville, PA, Orthopaedic Surgeon, and American Medical Association Board of Trustee. “Tools that can support healthcare providers identifying biomechanical dysfunctions and quantifying the cause of pain and symptoms is a new frontier in diagnosing and treating the underlying causes of knee pain. The KneeKG provides hard data that documents biomechanical dysfunction at a level of accuracy that makes it possible to reduce pain, improve treatment, produce better surgery outcomes, and ultimately drive patient satisfaction and quality of life.”
The KneeKG is the first clinically validated tool that meets the global needs of clinicians for objective and quantifiable biomechanical markers linked to pain and instabilities of an orthopedic cause, such as those associated with knee osteoarthritis, anterior knee pain, and ligament injuries. It assesses and documents the knee in motion and highlights, with high accuracy and reliability, any malalignment in varus, valgus, flexum, tibial rotation, varus thrust, and other biomechanical markers. The clinical data extracted from the computerized assessment defines the exact mechanical issue within the knee, giving healthcare professionals the medically necessary information in order to enhance treatment decision-making and address the impaired markers. With the specified data from the KneeKG system, healthcare professionals can help their patients achieve pain reduction, improved treatment(s), and better surgery outcomes, which will improve patient satisfaction and quality of life.
“Knee pain is the second leading cause of chronic pain. One out of five people experience knee pain during their life due to an injury or pathology such as knee osteoarthritis, patellofemoral syndrome, ACL rupture, or a meniscal tear,” said Michelle Laflamme, president and CEO of Emovi, Inc. “Our commitment to provide health care providers with a complete diagnostic picture of such a complicated joint and improve outcomes for patients with knee pain worldwide will always be our motivation. “We are thrilled to continue to build on our relationship with Geisinger Clinics as they introduce the KneeKG into clinics for their patients that suffer from knee pain.”

About Emovi Inc.
Headquartered in Montreal, Emovi is a healthcare innovation company whose mission is to shape the future of knee care to help patients live active lives again. In partnership with the Quebec university research community, including the CRCHUM, École de Technologie supérieure (ÉTS), and TELUQ, Emovi completed the development of the KneeKG, an FDA 510K cleared, Health Canada licensed and CE Marked medical device appropriate for assessing the 3D motion of the knee for patients who have impaired movement functions of an orthopedic cause. The technique is described as a Knee Kinesiography exam.
The KneeKG is the first clinically validated tool specifically designed to meet the global needs of clinicians for objective and quantified biomechanical markers in order to provide appropriate biomechanical correctives. The computerized assessment based on AI/Machine Learning provides valuable clinical data about biomechanical dysfunction, including dynamic alignment, to better understand knee pain and patients’ symptoms. In addition, the KneeKG App+ provides valuation information to determine appropriateness to total knee arthroplasty (with a positive/negative score). https://emovi.ca
